Angry

There is a company here (which shall ramain nameless for legal reasons) which plays heavily on their Swedihness. Swedish style and Swedish design, and Swedish people who work there. Unfortunately for the people who work there, the person who owns the company has somewhere along the lines forgotten his/her own Swedishness. The staff are treated terribly. You see, there are certain worklaws here in Australia (driven through by the right wing Howard government) which give all the rights to companies and take all rights away from the employees.
- If you do not want to pay your employees extra on weeknights, weekends and public holidays, well you simply don't have to! (This Swedish company does not).
- There are cameras in the workplace which the owners of the company watch all the time, and if something not to their liking happens in the shop, well Big Brother is watching and will be only a phonecall and a bollocking away. (Yes folks, this is done!)
- An employee going on maternity leave will go UNPAID as the company will only grant parental leave of absence as per thier legal obligations. (Companies here do not have to pay anyone, only of good-will).

My point is that someone who wants to claim being Swedish, should also bring what's good about Sweden to their company and lead by example. Shame on them.

I wish I could ask you all to blacklist this company, but that would be hard as it only exists in Australia and many of you live in Sweden or elsewhere.

Luxury of Hysteria

We went to see Tim Rogers play an acoustic set at Bennetts Lane Jazz Club on Saturday. It was absolutely amazing. Birtles who was there with us was super excited about the whole thing as Tim is one of his favourite artists, although Birtles' girlfriend didn't seem too impressed with the performance. Oh well, I guess you can't win 'em all.

Goldfish continued

Both have died!!! We tried changing the ph of the water and all sorts of other measurments, but on Saturday they had both died. I cried and Will had to scoop them out and "bury" them somewhere. (What to do with dead pets when you don't have a garden out the back?) The toilet it is....

So Sam and Friend; thanks for the short but very sweet company you provided.

Visitors

I have completely forgotten the best news of all: over Christmas and the New Year, two amazing people are coming to see us: my mum and dad!!!

I am so excited!!

Anniversary

We didn't exactly have any grand plans of exciting things to do today, but then again neither of us expected it to end like this: me in bed feeling pretty average. I am hardly ever ill so I guess when it finally happens it's only fair it happens on the one day you want to be able to do something fun like going to a nice resaurant or for a walk in the Botanical Gardens.

Goldfish

We have bought a couple of goldfish and here's a little photo where you can probably not see
them at all! The fishtank itself it pretty funky though!As per usual, there's a bit of a story here... I asked Will to name the fish and the only name he could come up with was a very Swedish name that I actually have a couple of friends called, so i used my veto power against it. Days went by and no new name was put forward. I kept asking for new names, but nothing happened. One night we were watching I am Sam on tv when Will tells me that one of the little fish may be dying as he was hanging out by the surface, being very still. I started crying saying I have killed my fish (I had overfed the little buggers). The worst thing was that the poor fish could die and not have a name. So in the spirit of Sam, they are now known as Sam and Friend.





And they are both still alive.
